THOUGHT AND OPINION

Hallo...welcome. It' me Lutfi and I will explain the material about thought and opinion.

Definition of Opinion

Noun

> A belief, or way of thinking about something; how someone things about a particular thing.

>  A formal statement made by a court or judge, explaining the reasons for its decision.

Origin

What is Opinion

Opinion is a belief that is stronger than an idea or intuition, but not as strong as having definite knowledge. Many people have a strong belief or judgment about a person, thing, or behavior that becomes their generally held opinion. For instance, a man may have the opinion that lawyers are arrogant and untrustworthy. While his life experience may have led to this assessment, he may not have actual facts to be positive about the trustworthiness of lawyers in general.

》Asking and giving Opinion 

Asking Opinion is a sentence which asking opinion or argument to other people to satisfaction. Giving Opinion is a sentence that gives a reason to someone or other people. So, Asking and Giving Opinion is expressions that is used for talking about argument or opinion of two or more people.

☆ Expressions of Asking & Giving Opinion

1.        Expressions of Asking Opinion

There are expressions of asking opinion in two situations:

Ø     Formal

-          Do you have any idea?

-          Do you have any opinion on …

-          Do you think is/are …

-          Have you got any comments on …

-          What is your opinion about….?

-          What are you feeling about….?

Ø       Informal

-          What do you think of…….?

-          What do you think about…?

-          What is your idea/opinion...?

-          How do you like?

-          How do you think of Rina’s idea ?

2.        Expressions of Giving Opinion

There are expressions of giving opinion in two situations:

Ø     Formal

-          I personally believe …..

-          I personally consider ….

-          I personally think /feel ….

-          I hold the opinion ….

-          Well, personally …

Ø     Informal

-         I think it’s good/nice/great …

-          I think that…

-          I think I like it.

-          In my opinion …

-          In my case …..

-          In my mind …..

-          I believe ...

-          If you ask to me, I feel ….

☆Expressions for Agreeing and Disagreeing Opinion

Agreeing with an Opinion

- Of course

- Neither do I

- This is absolutely right

- I agree with this opinion

- I could'nt agree more

- I agree with what you are saying but have you ever.....

Disagreeing with an Opinion

- I am sorry, i don't agree with you 

- I do not believe that

- By this I mean...

- I am afraid I have to disagree with you

- I can't say i agree with this , and here's why...

☆Let's look at the sentence structure to express opinion

SUBJECT+VERB+OBJECT

● Example

▪︎ I + agree + with what you are saying
▪︎ We + assume + you are biased on this issue
▪︎ I + think + you are mistaken

》Definition of Thought

   The act of thinking about something to form ideas and opinions, or an idea or opinion produced by thinking:

-have given this matter considerable thought.

-Do you have any thoughts on what we should do now?

- That fact never entered my thoughts.

- His early religious training helped to shape his thought.

》Used with adjectives

"Let's think happy thoughts about the situation."

"I've been having some bad thoughts about this trip"

"A strange thought came over me."

"That was my first thought."

"Would you like to share your private thoughts with me?"

》Used with verbs:

"Let me know your thoughts."

"Let's share our thoughts about the movie."

"She went for a walk to clear her thoughts."

》Used with prepositions

"She was scared at the thought of going to the dentist."

"What are your thoughts on the political situation?"

B: I want to know, what do you think of the film?

A: I think the movie is really fun and funny and teaches us not to insecure. What do you think?

B : Yes, I totally agree with your opinion and also in my opinion the film has a value that we can take and must be ourselves

CONCLUSION OF DIALOGUE  ABOUT OPINION AND THOUGHT

- I also agree (agreeing with an opinion and thought)

So, the conclusion opinion and thoughts are rather different in their definition. Opinion is basically a statement about what you have in mind about something, either agree or disagree, pro or con and so on. Thoughts are actually ideas or what you think about something. It can be an opinion, solution, critics etc.
